Florida SIDS Alliance

in the belief that every child should live…

Letters were sent to the Northeast Florida SIDS families to invite them to contribute a quilt square in memory of their child. Information and directions for this first quilt and others from around the state are available upon request and directions will also be printed in the August issue of the Florida SIDS Alliance newsletter. The goal is to complete a 6 or 9 patch regional quilt before the October Southern Women’s Show in Jacksonville. Other quilts will be started as this first one is completed. One square from the original state quilt completed in 1996 will be added to each regional quilt as a gesture of heritage and to spread the original squares around the state. If you are interested in submitting a square – call the toll free number – 1-800-SIDS-FLA – for more information. The goal is to complete six regional quilts by July 2010.

The third weekend in March was very successful for both the events and training held for the Florida SIDS Alliance.
Golfers turned out on a beautiful March 20 morning at the Alaqua Country Club and played 18 holes without a raindrop this year. The tournament sponsors were Mark and Laura Lampke, and Jim True, all from Truevance, Inc. headquartered in Jacksonville.
Walkers were met with a terrible Saturday March 21 morning storm in Jupiter, but not only did the weather clear but over 45 walkers turned out for the 1st Annual Kiara Dawn Walk-A-Thon along the beautiful Riverwalk Park.
Peer contact training was held in Jupiter on March 22. We welcomed Stacy as a visitor and new peer contact from Maine. This training will be repeated again as other groups request the course. The one day training is available to parents who want to reach out to others in the spirit of support after the loss of an infant to any sudden and unexplained death in infancy.
Thanks to all that turned out for these events.

March is the month for two great opportunities to support the Florida SIDS Alliance.

March 20 – Annual Memorial Golf Tournament-Alaqua Golf and Country Club -Longwood
We hope to make this the easiest tournament to play in; all inclusive for the players will be the registation, mulligans, and tickets for door prizes. A silent auction will be held.
The tournament sponsor this year is Truevance, Inc. with a local office in Orlando. Truevance is a nationwide design and engineering firm for network intrastructure, headquartered in Jacksonville. They are hosting the event in memory of Glenn Lampke – lost to SIDS in 1995.
Registration is from 7-8am with a continental breakfast sponsored by Panera Breads. and a shotgun start at 8:15am.
“Own Your Own Hole” sponsors will delight the players with comical antics.
Hole-in-One contests have been added to spice up the playing time.
Lunch and prizes will round out the fun day.

March 21 – Kiara Dawn Walk-A-Thon – Jupiter Riverwalk in Jupiter
Walker sign up begins at 7 a.m. and walk starts at 8 a.m.
The The Young Hip Momma’s Group have organized and plan to host the First Annual Kiara Dawn Walk-A-Thon on March 21th, 2009 in Jupiter at the Riverwalk.

Welcome to the new Florida SIDS Alliance blog. It is my hope that this new forum can be the launch pad for many thoughts, ideas, and be used as a communication tool.
